Appendix A — Questions and answers

For everyone

Short answers to the questions people ask most, with the chapter that explains each one.

A.1 Counting

I tapped + too many times. Tap − to take one off. After a change of more than one, the bar at the bottom offers Undo for a few seconds. Chapter 8

I typed the wrong count. Tap the number again and choose Set total, or swipe left on the product and tap Clear to start again. Chapter 8

The phone rang, or the app closed, in the middle of counting. Nothing is lost: every tap is saved at once. Open the count again from the Count tab. It may ask who’s counting: check that your name is the one chosen. Chapter 8

Why can’t I see how many there should be? Counting is blind on purpose: knowing the answer changes what people find. The approver sees the expected numbers in Review. Chapter 3

I found a single earring without its pair. Count the whole pairs, then add the odd one with Singles on the same sheet. A single is shown beside the pairs and is never rounded into a pair. Chapter 1

A product I’m holding isn’t in the list. Search for it, or use Find by code. If it still isn’t there, it may be a type this count doesn’t cover, an archived product, or a design not yet in the catalogue: tell the owner. Chapter 8

Two of us want to count the same count. Take turns on the shop’s phone. Each time, go back to the counts list, open the count and choose your own name. The count lists you both. Chapter 8

What’s the difference between “None here” and leaving a product blank? “None here” counts 0: you looked and there were none. A product left with a dash wasn’t counted, and keeps its stock unless the approver chooses Set to zero. Chapter 8

A.2 Boxes and tags

The scan says “Product code”. That’s a barcode or SKU, which is on every piece of a design, so it can’t count one piece. Count those pieces on their rows, or with a box photo. Chapter 9

The scan says “Already counted in Box 2”. That piece was counted earlier in this count. It adds nothing, so nothing is counted twice. Chapter 9

The app asks “Is this Box 2 again?” It thinks you may have photographed the same box twice. If you have, tap Cancel. Chapter 9

Picture matches never suggest anything. Picture matching compares pieces with product photos only. Products without a photo, showing a drawing, can’t be matched. Chapter 5

I can’t tell which product a piece in the To identify queue is. Tap See the box to find it in the tray, then look at the piece itself. If it’s a design the shop has no product for, choose Not in the catalogue. Otherwise Skip it and come back. Chapter 10

A.3 Review and completing

A shortage’s tick won’t turn on. It hasn’t been recounted. Tap it under Recount first and count it again. Chapter 13

Complete is greyed out. Some pieces in box photos aren’t identified. Reopen the count so a counter can identify them. Chapter 10

Everyone who approves counted in this count. Then the owner approves it. If the owner counted too, the count says one person counted and approved it. Chapter 4

We need to count some more after submitting. An approver taps Reopen for counting on the count and gives a reason. Chapter 13

The books are older than the counting. Pieces sold in between would look missing. Load newer books, or give the reason and review anyway. Chapter 11

A.4 Stock and the catalogue

A product shows stock below zero. A movement is missing, usually a delivery entered late. Record it with its real date, or count the product. Chapter 2

A product’s stock is wrong, and I know why. Open it, tap Adjust, enter the correct stock and the reason. Adjust waits while the product is being counted. Chapter 6

Can I delete a movement I entered by mistake? No. Put it right with another movement, usually an Adjust with the reason, so the ledger keeps the whole story. Chapter 2

I imported a spreadsheet, but the stock didn’t change. Importing never changes the stock of a product Jholok already has. Count the product instead. Chapter 5

A tag won’t link: it says it’s a product code. A product’s barcode or SKU can’t be a piece tag, because every piece of the design carries it. Use the piece’s own tag. Chapter 5

Pieces are on jangad. Will the count call them missing? No. Pieces sent out in Jholok are off the shelf, and a count doesn’t expect them there. Chapter 12

A.5 Data and privacy

Does Jholok need the internet? No. Everything stays on the phone; nothing is sent to a server or synced. Chapter 15

Can two phones share the shop’s data? No. Jholok keeps the shop on one phone. A backup can move it to another phone, but that replaces what the other phone had. Chapter 15

How often should I back up? After every completed count, and at least once a week. Jholok doesn’t back up by itself. Chapter 15

Why does every export ask for Face ID? A file that leaves the phone can’t be taken back, so the owner confirms each one. Chapter 4

I forgot the owner PIN. On a phone with Face ID, use Face ID, then set a new PIN in Settings → People. On a phone without it, the owner PIN can be reset with the phone’s passcode; the log and the next count’s result say it was reset. Chapter 4

Jholok says it can’t open its data. Nothing has been deleted. Try again, restore a backup, or save the data file so it can be repaired. Chapter 15

A.6 Something went wrong

The app says something “wasn’t saved, so it’s back as it was”. The change didn’t save, often because the phone is nearly full, so Jholok put everything back as it was. Free some space and try again. Chapter 15

The camera says it’s paused. It says why: a call, another app using the camera, the app beside another in Split View, or the phone being too warm. It comes back on its own, or when you open Jholok full screen. Chapter 9

A photo is blurred, too dark or tilted. Tap Retake, or Use anyway if you’re happy with it. Chapter 9
